DIVERSITY OF FUNGI ON THE SEMULUH CAVE FLOOR,SUBDISTRICT OF SEMANU, GUNUNG KIDUL,

ABSTRACT
Karst area has many potency that still has not been discovered yet. The karst has a unique relief characteristic and drainage because of what a specific ecosystem was formed. One of the ecosystem found in karst is cave. Cave ecosystem is isolated from the outer environment so it has a specific condition : high humidity, constant temperature and lightless. Nevertheless, the karst soil consist of many soluted mineral, mostly mineral calcite. This research purposed to isolate and identify fungis found on the floor of Semuluh cave, Subdistrict of Semanu, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. Data and sample was taken on July, 16 2008 in Semuluh Cave, Ngeposari Village, Subdistrict of Semanu, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. Data and sample was taken in 3 stations : entrance, twilight zone, and dark zone. Soil sample was taken in 3 times repetition in each station. From the sample, fungi was grown on Rose-Bengal medium pour plate. After 7 days incubation, fungi was then isolated by growing it on PDA medium. Fungi then was observed for its colony and hifa morphology. This research discovered 16 species of fungi which 5 species in light zone, 5 species in twilight and 6 species in dark zone. Aspergillus was the most genus found in this research and each zone has a different kind of fungi.
